Hally & Timmy’s Timeless Wedding at Grandfather Golf and Country Club

September 23, 2024

In August, we had the chance to sit down with former Whole Shebang Bride, Hally, to reminisce about her wedding day.

Hally married Timmy exactly 1 year ago today at Grandfather Golf and Country Club in Linville, NC. We are thrilled to share this post as a celebration of 1 year of marriage for The Coopers!

During our time chatting with Hally, we talked about everything from dating to proposal to planning to wedding weekend, and all the details in between. We cover their unique wedding details, favorite moments, and Hally’s impeccable fashion!

Hally also shares her wisdom for current couples planning their wedding, and we couldn’t agree more with everything she shared! This is a must-read for any couple planning their wedding. Without further ado, let’s dive into our interview, starting with Hally and Timmy’s love story!

Love Story & Proposal:

Hally and Timmy grew up in Winston-Salem together, meeting in middle school and then becoming close friends in high school; surprisingly, considering their hometown roots, their love story actually began in New York City! Hally had just returned from studying abroad and flew to NYC to start a summer internship, where Timmy happened to be completing an internship, too. They met for dinner in the city, and the rest is history.

Their story came full circle when Timmy brought her back to the same restaurant they had met at for dinner years before and proposed! The icing on the cake was their entire family waiting for them, ready to celebrate, at the bar where they would hang out and grab drinks during their time in New York City.

Favorite Moments of Their Wedding Weekend:

Hally shared some of their favorite moments of the weekend happened before the weekend began. On Thursday, Timmy’s parents hosted a kick-off get-together with close friends and family at their home. Spending time with a smaller and more intimate group of close family and friends helped Hally feel calm and relaxed as they prepared for their wedding weekend. To top it off, they ended Thursday night with a groovy silent disco!

Hally’s favorite part of the weekend was their ceremony. Hally and Timmy are both Christians with a strong Faith, so their ceremony was really important to them both. Prior to the wedding, Hally had prayed for peace and calm during the ceremony and that she could remain present.

Reflecting back, she can remember every detail and felt truly present throughout their ceremony. She recalled great weather, a gentle breeze, and that everything was absolutely beautiful. A close family friend led their ceremony, which made it all the more special for them.

Their venue, Grandfather Golf and Country Club, was another favored part of their weekend. The couple spent a lot of time at Grandfather as they were dating and engaged at Timmy’s family home there.

When you are in Linville, you can truly disconnect [partially due to the lack of signal!] and unwind in an oasis of tranquility. With no signal, you are forced to slow down, relax, and enjoy where you are, which is exactly what they wanted for their guests. This made the choice to have their wedding at Grandfather a no-brainer.

Another fun and memorable moment in the planning process was their tasting at Grandfather Golf and Country Club. They tasted everything from cocktails to hors d’ouerves to dinner selections and more. Hally shared that it was a 10-star experience, with the entire catering team spending two hours helping them nail down exactly what they wanted for their wedding from a food and beverage perspective.

When the weekend arrived, everything was phenomenal, and they still receive compliments from guests about the delicious food and fantastic team at Grandfather Golf and Country Club. Having their wedding at Grandfather was definitely a highlight for them both.

Looking Back on Planning Their Wedding:

Hally loved wedding planning. She shared that having an amazing team of planners helped her to feel at ease. From the first meeting, Meris helped Hally to feel calm and find the ease that she was looking for in the planning process. From there on out, she noted that check-ins were timed well, so it never felt overwhelming, and she was able to savor every moment.

One of Hally’s favorite parts of planning was putting together all of their wedding details. She enjoyed creating and incorporating personal touches throughout the weekend, including welcome bags for guests and crafting a custom itinerary with help from Peyton’s Post.

Hally wanted their wedding to be timeless and traditional but, at the same time, incorporate Nashville and music details in a timeless way. She loved getting to personalize details that spoke to who they are as a couple.  Among our favorites were the guitars for guests to sign as a guest book and guitar picks with their monogram.

Hally treasured the time spent wedding planning with her Mom. They talked many times every day, and while Hally drove the decisions and meetings, her Mom was very involved. Hally shared that it was such a special thing to plan together.

The only thing stressful thing for Hally during planning was the seating chart. Meris and I laughed because that is the only thing we can’t make any easier for anyone! Aisle Planner, our customized planning tool, is helpful, but the logistics of selecting who would sit best with who is always a tough task. Our only recommendation is to start earlier than you think!

Hally also mentioned that Aisle Planner was a saving grace during planning! Having everyone connected in her Aisle Planner portal and keeping all of their vendor contacts and information in one place was helpful and kept everyone aligned throughout the planning process.

Advice for Future Couples:

When asked what advice she would give to a couple currently planning their wedding, Hally shared that “it is really easy to get caught up in the small details of things and think that they are the biggest details in the world, but when you get to it, those details don’t matter, and it’s really about the people that are there and why you are actually there – to get married. The ceremony should be the most important detail of the whole weekend.”

Her advice would be to not compare your weddings to others that you see online.

There is a lot of pressure from a content perspective, and it can be really easy to start comparing your wedding to other weddings that you see or that you attend, but she said to stay focused on why you are getting married, who you are marrying, and who you are celebrating with.

You can ask yourself, “Do I really care about it, or do I just care if other people are going to like it?” Comparison is the thief of joy and if couples can push off the comparison factor, it helps so much in keeping joy at the center. “Be grounded in your WHY.”  Words of wisdom from Hally’s Dad that they called upon throughout the entire planning process.

Looking Back on The Weekend:

As we reminisced on the weekend as a whole, we asked Hally what was one thing that she was really glad that they did for their weekend and she quickly said that she was so glad that they got a tent! They had always wanted a tent for their wedding and could not imagine having their celebration inside. She loved having the party and the band in the tent and noted how beautiful it all was.

As planners, we love to reflect on what didn’t go as planned, and one thing Hally noted during their weekend that was completely out of our control was the wind!

As their reception was taking place, the wind began to pick up, but thankfully, the party was able to stay in place under the gorgeous tent. Hally serendipitously recalled that it just added a little excitement – she was so glad they had the tent as a part of their wedding celebration.

Flowers were another favorite part of the day for Hally. Originally, she had selected flowers in a blue, green, and white color palette, but decided to switch it up and was glad she did.

Mason with Millefleurs left her speechless. The outcome of the change in color palette was truly stunning. She still has people ask about their flowers, they were definitely a highlight of their wedding design!

Their rehearsal dinner and welcome party, hosted by Tim and Kate Cooper, Timmy’s parents, was another highlight of the weekend. She was thrilled that their Rehearsal Dinner was family style as it felt very symbolic of what they wanted for their guests – sitting around the table and breaking bread together.

The details of Friday’s events were a surprise to Hally and Timmy, which made it all the more fun for them! Our favorite highlight was the monogrammed napkins at each place setting. These were a beautiful touch and something that Hally and Timmy now use in their home. Kate has amazing design taste and came to the table with a strong vision for Friday’s events.

The last topic we discussed before wrapping up our interview with Hally was her impeccable fashion for the weekend [something Hally studied in college and is passionate about].

For her rehearsal dinner, she wore a Zimmerman dress that she went to great lengths to get! It was a showstopper.

For her wedding dress, she found it at Nitsa’s, a timeless Winston-Salem store owned by friends that their family has known forever!

Hally tried on around 4-5 dresses before finding her dress. She had a screenshot of Pippa Middleton’s dress saved as inspiration for the lace overlay she found and actually had a screenshot of the exact dress she ended up selecting! She knew she wanted something timeless and classic, and she nailed it. Her dress was by designer Romona Keveza and absolutely stunning.

Hally wore her Mother’s wedding veil. Hally and her Mom did not open the heirloom veil until they got to Nitsa’s and were thrilled to find that it was not only in pristine condition but that the lace on her Mom’s veil was almost identical to Hally’s lace overlay. A stunning coincidence!

While her lace overlay was thankfully so comfortable that she could have kept it on all night, she wanted to give the strapless dress a moment during the reception.

Later in the night, Hally changed into a second dress, a shorter Bronx and Banco dress adorned with floral applique that she paired with boots for a touch of Nashville.

Final Notes:

As we ended our interview, Hally’s final advice was, “It doesn’t have to be that complicated!” and we could not agree more.
